Happy Winter House Wednesday (I wrote this on Wednesday, so just pretend).
I’m having a slightly uncomfortable week. It’s very chilly in Santa Monica and there’s construction happening in the apartment across from me that assaults my ears every few minutes. I’m anti-noise pollution even if it benefits the apartment across the way!
I also encountered a potentially dangerous squirrel outside my apartment building today. He lept from the bushes, jutted his head at me, and as I tried to walk down the stairs, he flew to the hand rail and made a clickity sound. There was some major darkness in his eyes— I may be using the back entrance for the foreseeable future.
Here are some personal updates:
I decided that one of the most embarrassing things you can do is plug your ears when sirens go by. Some of you may say “Charlotte, I’ve seen you plug your ears with flourish when sirens go by!” Well, that’s all in the past because I saw a couple doing it yesterday and was aghast. Who are you to think the noise of the siren is so disruptive that you have to make a show of it?
I also decided that pop song covers are lame. What benefit do we get from someone singing Industry Baby with an ethereal voice (it’s ALWAYS an ethereal voice)?
I attended a gym hangout with members and instructors from my gym.
I shopped with my mom and turned her down every time she suggested I pair a dress with jeans.
I made my 80th playlist on Spotify. Making Spotify playlists has been one of my favorite activities since 2013.
And finally, I tried a detox tea on Monday and I’m still recovering today.
TV
Succession (HBO)- “I’m too young to be in Congress so much.”- Cousin Greg
One Of Us is Lying (Peacock)- Teen melodrama alert!! I’ve been missing teen drama in my life ever since that Jack Nicholson son’s show ended on Amazon Prime. This one is a good one- drama, affairs, sexuality questioning, and lots of “it’s not my dream it’s YOUR dream.”
Goliath (Amazon Prime)- OH MY GOD don’t sleep on Goliath. Legal drama thriller. Good Wife meets Bosch but way easier to follow than Bosch. The first + second season takes place in Santa Monica (my home) and is anchored at this bar called Chez Jay (my mom roasted me when I pronounced it “Chez” rather than “Shay”). The second season takes place in the central valley (where my best friend C is from, so many personal connections with this show!) on an almond farm.
Ted Lasso (Apple TV+)- Please don’t be mad at me but I’m back to thinking it’s lame.
Champaign Ill (Hulu)- If you like Detroiters and Happy Endings, you will love this. Adam Pally and Sam Richardson! It gets very DARK. Danielle Schneider from Bitch Sesh is in it!
You (Netflix)- Um lol. This is a fast forward show for me because I like the story but hate seeing all gory the stuff in between.
Dope Sick (Hulu)- Very heartbreaking-I mostly watch for Kaitly Dever’s storyline.
Curb Your Enthusiasm (HBO)- Still got it! The Larry and Susie dynamic is why I watch.
Love Life (HBO Max) - I loved the Anna Kendrick season (sue me). This one is good but Chidi from The Good Place is such a sad boi in it. I will give it a chance to blossom.
Winter House (Bravo)- I can’t explain how much I love this show. Summer House and Winter House are perfect to me. I feel like I’m on a trip with my annoying friends every week. I love seeing the tiny interactions between Craig and Paige. And what would we do without Lindsay Hubhouse how many sandwiches have you made for me?
RHBH (Bravo) - Thank you to Sutton for asking the questions nobody else will!!
Bachelor (ABC) - I’m part of a Bachelor fantasy league where I could win up to $700 so I am taking this season very seriously. I think I like Leroy best but that might be because he’s the only one whose name I remember ATM.
The Way Down (HBO Max) - a documentary series about a Christian weight loss cult run by the woman with the hair pictured above.
15 Minutes of Shame (HBO Max) - A short and sweet documentary about being cancelled online and the repercussions. It’s directed by Max from Catfish (so proud of him, quite the leap from his DJ movie a few years ago!).
Movies
Queen Pins (Paramount +)- I thought this was really fun!! But my sister said that it was not only not fun, but also really boring, so I’m questioning my original opinion.
Something Borrowed (Netflix, I think) - YEEKS. Does not age well!
Books
Little Secrets- 5/5 Thriller about a girl named Marin (not to be confused with my sister!!) who is out for revenge. There are twists you would never see coming.
The Falling Girls - Great idea about murderous cheerleaders but not written in the way teenagers speak.
Ok, I’m going back to my cozy lazy fall activities! TTYL, TTFN. And for the love of God please implore your friends and acquaintances to subscribe! (that wasn’t meant to sound mean, just sassy and fun).
A well deserved roasting from mom on the Chez Jay pronunciation. Wondering if you watched Squid Games. Guessing we had to fast forward through most of it (see: You commentary)?
God I hope you win your Fantasy Bachelor League!!! Make a show of covering your ears from sirens lol
