Happy NCIS Sunday!
I spent so many years eschewing NCIS because I lit-erally didn’t understand what it was about. Something boats related? A cooky goth girl who does all the tech stuff who isn’t as likeable as the cooky goth tech girl from Criminal Minds? I knew Mark Harmon from being the dad on Freaky Friday but that was about it. Little did I know, by dipping my toe into NCIS Hawaii I would open a vast world that is this beautiful franchise. I finished NCIS Hawaii (I feel like I’m part of the supportive team led by Vanessa Lachey!) and am now onto NCIS Los Angeles which has 13 seasons set in my home of Los Angeles. Paired with Candy Crush Soda Saga + Oat Haus Granola Butter with apples, it’s the perfect antidote to a long work day of reality tv producing (hehe I can’t believe I get to type that sentence).
I’d love to be an influencer and be sponsored by things like NCIS Hawaii, Zevia Soda, and Candy Crush because I do admittedly spend US dollars to purchase more lives.
Anyway, I have so many shows and ~films~ to discuss. Oh! and a book.
I also want to mention another newsletter that covers ALL of my interests, so you might like it too. Sophie Ross does a lot of investigative journalism for us reality tv, twitter, Blogsnark Reddit, true crime podcast girlies. From Jax Taylor’s Instagram account where he sells his old clothing and trolls people to an investigation into Kendall Jenner’s cucumber slicing technique to Tinx’s old tweets (insert open eyes emoji), she covers all of the important issues.
TV
The Wilds (Amazon Prime) - My friend Maria kept insisting I watch this and I kept resisting because I thought that nothing YA would live up to Yellowjackets but The Wilds is so unique. It’s a fascinating, thrilling (like really scary sometimes, beware) world. Next season the boys and the girls islands are merging… can somebody say, sexual tension?
I Love That For You (Showtime) - Vanessa Bayer’s Showtime show (with Molly Shannon!) is so funny that I keep recording scenes with my phone to send to people and my phone crashed because of no storage. She’s so naturally funny. She pronounces “whatever” as “ratever” and I almost fainted from laughter.
Hacks (HBO Max) - PERFECT FINALE. I hope they can make another season- I wonder where it will go, though?? My only complaint with this season is I didn’t understand why we were following Marcus’ storyline- I wasn’t invested!
Staircase (HBO Max) - Maybe I believe the Owl Theory?
Candy (Hulu) = Jessica Biel’s cray cray true crime show is very entertaining and speaking of Yellowjackets, Melanie Lynsky stars!! Jessica and Melanie’s husbands, Justin Timberlake and Jason Ritter, play the detectives which is very cute.
Conversation w Friends (Hulu)- I loved this book because it has one of my favorite descriptions of a party “everyone was wearing long necklaces.” But the show was slightly disappointing because the main character is super bland and nnoying. I knew this form the book but it was reallllyyyy heightened in the series.
Lincoln Lawyer (Netflix) - I watched this in one sitting (I wish I was joking, I might have a problem but I’m in far too deep now to do anything about it) and it was the perfect combination of Bosch and Goliath with the lightness of The Mentalist or Psych.
The Deep End (Freeform/ Hulu)- OMG RUN DON’T WALK. This docuseries is so chilling. Teal Swan is a haunting lady (I had only known her previously through various instagram videos and her stunning hair) and I can’t believe how much access she gave to filmmakers.
Real Housewives of Dubai (Bravo) - Not hooked yet- dare I say Caroline Stanbury has lost her edge?- but I’ll def be watching. I love that you can watch Housewives on Peacock now, I was able to cancel my cable subscription lol because I realized the only thing I was watching was Bravo.
RHBH (Bravo)- Oh sweet misunderstood, weird Sutton. It’s harder to defend her but she seems to have redeemed herself in the most recent ep. Crystal lost the plot for a second but I still love her friendship with Sutton. Garcelle and Kyle are the two main ladies now which is a new interesting dynamic.
Movies
Ok I was going to write some movie reviews on my own without Bri but I just can’t. I did watch so many movies this month because of Thomas influence. I’m gonna do a rapid fire:
Hoop Dreams- I’ve been reading where are they now articles all day. Arthur and William both seem to be doing ok!!
Crumb- CHILLING AND STILL REELING
From Justin to Kelly- contractually obligated American Idol movie that Kelly Clarkson didn’t feel comfortable doing but had to so she wears a lot of sarongs and capris to Spring break on the beach :(
Senior Year- Rebel Wilson movie that’s kinda odd but fun-ish?
Annie Hall- I get the hype.
Along for the Ride - boring brunette main character similar to Conversations with Friends. Maybe blondes do have more fun :(
Artemis Fowl - If you paid me 1 million dollars I couldn’t tell you what this movie was about.
Usual Suspects - Cancellation station with Kevin Spacey but very fun. I guessed the twist halfway through because of my experience watching/ reading mystery/ thrillers.
Book
I’ll Be You - child stars! twins! cults!! what else do I need to say?
Ok tootalooo! Send to your friends and tell them to subscribe if you want :)
Ratever!!!
