Hi it’s me!
I’m back from break refreshed and feeling lazy as ever. It’s raining here in Santa Monica, which is the same as a blizzard elsewhere, so I’m allowed to be cozy indoors. There are some life and lifestyle updates I’d like to share:
I stopped eating popcorn cold turkey about two months ago because I was worried that I was maybe over-doing it and haven’t bragged about it once* *UPDATE: I started writing this last week and have since gone back to popcorn, but now have a super-fixation on licorice-mint tea, so I’m less concerned about the popcorn kernels floating through my veins (I didn’t do well in science class).
I’ve been learning how to contour and not succeeding! I’m not sure when I’ll learn that my face doesn’t really accept makeup.
Ski season reminds me that God made me have no interest in skiing because otherwise I would be too much of a catch :(
Sometimes if you're worried someone doesn't like you it's because you actually don't like them.
My sister taught me that we should feel bad for those who have wronged us because they have lost our respect forever. She is wise!
Some people don’t have an inner monologue and that terrifies me!!
The guy who runs my cross-fit-like workout class wears toe shoes, doesn’t believe in “medicine” and is very critical of the way I do lunges. I told him today that my knees are always going to turn inward and that he should accept it (I didn’t really say he should accept it because I don’t like to challenge authority, but I did say the knees turn inward thing).
I recently saw an old college fling on a dating app and I think he got new teeth! Are Love Island teef coming to the US?
I’ve had some transcendent TV watching experiences (scripted and unscripted):
Paul T. Goldman (Peacock): A documentary about the making of a movie about a book written by Paul T Goldman, starring Paul T Goldman, the most earnest, clueless, and maybe sociopathic (??) man on earth. Directed by the guy who directed Borat Subsequent Movie Film… so you get where this is going. 4/5
Will Trent (ABC)- As I said, it’s Will Trent Winter. this series is going to be GOOD and it will go on for eight seasons I predict. It will be the new Bones. There’s a whole universe of characters based on the books written by Karin Slaughter (which I’ve of course been devouring). 5/5
The Duchess (Netflix) - A loud, stylish, messy Canadian expat navigating posh mom culture in London. I don’t understand why so many incredible British shows are only six episodes. Why not more? Why leave us hanging? 5/5
Fleishman Is In Trouble, specifically episode 7 (Hulu)- I wasn’t into Fleishman at the beginning because I found him to be self centered (I guess that’s the point) and his over-use of dating apps made me deeply sad for my dating future. HOWEVER episode 7 told from his wife’s perspective (played by Claire Danes) was so phenomenal and haunting, I haven’t been able to shake it! She portrays the deep dark heartbreak of the realization the person with you doesn’t understand you and doesn’t care to. That you’re alone in the world. and it’s just you and your thoughts. 5/5 for this specific episode 4/5 for the season.
Younger (Hulu, etc)- I finally finished Younger and am devastated because it went so downhill :( There were so many potential couples, love triangles, and drama moments missed! Mairin rated this a 17/100 I am more kind and give it a 3/5.
Sex Lives of College Girls (HBOMax)- Why do these girls have to make the most embarrassing, cringey decisions at every turn? I didn’t realize the chemistry class love interest was Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ son. I’ll of course watch the next season but I was slightly disappointed. 3.5/5
RHOM (Peacock)- I’m very into this new season. I love the diva, one-liner status of all of the ladies. Adriana is my favorite, sue me! 4/5
Speaking of Bravooooo, the Vanderpump Rules new season trailer came out today and I am counting down the days. It seems like Shwartz will make his star turn, Katie will thrive single, and Sandy will hug Raquel in an intimate way (??).
Criminal Minds Evolution (Paramount+)- I love the CM reboot. There’s some cheesy pandemic humor, but it’s ok with me because the gang is back together. Matt Saracen from FNL stars (I blush just typing his name. Imagine if it were Riggins!!) as the unsub and the last episode left on a crazy cliffhanger. Shout out to my friend Brie who produced this!! 4/5
Speaking of Paramount+, So Help Me Todd is back with a new episode. With Todd and Will Trent in my corner, I feel very good about 2023.
Emily in Paris (Neflix) - Girl…lol 2/5
The Battle for Justina Pelletier (Peacock)- Very unexpected documentary about this story. I was gripped! I would have posted this newsletter episode sooner but I watched all four episodes in one sitting! I haven’t quite processed it yet but highly recommend if you’re into Dr. Death-type podcasts. 4/5
I’m gonna come back in a couple weeks to write about books because I have ten new ones to review and I’m tired of typing :) OK TTYL!!
