Hello!
Happy sad girl fall! I’m not necessarily sad, I’ve just been listening to All Too Well by Taylor Swift on repeat since the end of July and adding cinnamon to my coffee. It’s just making me feel more things than usual. That’s all! Apparently, Taylor’s re-releasing a 10-minute version of it in November. There goes my November.
September was a roller coaster because I traveled internationally (well, to Vermont, but it was a very long flight), fell ill (not Covid but NOT GOOD), and became a fashion girl (I got my ears pierced and bought a fun pair of lug-soled loafers which did not receive positive feedback).
TV was overwhelmingly good this month. While I was sick I could only watch One Tree Hill and listen to the podcast that discusses One Tree Hill while I lay forlorn on my couch, but I still had time for all the top hits. My sister encouraged me not to include one of the films I lauded this month called Resort to Love because she thought people would start questioning my taste. She is wrong because it’s an incredible film.
TV!
Maid (Netflix)- I haven’t cried from a show in a long time but this one made me very emotional. The mother daughter connection is so sweet. I was also very impressed that Margaret Qualley was able to replicate the way people speak in rural Western Montana/ Eastern Washington, but I learned she went to elementary school in Missoula which makes more sense— she has major Montana girl energy. There’s a scene at the end (spoiler alert) where she finally escapes her abuser and drives to Missoula for college and passes the exit where my mom and Fred live. I started bawling.
Reservation Dogs (Hulu) - makes my head sparkle! It got better by the episode and made rural Oklahoma look like a magical land. Willie Jack was laugh out loud and my favorite character.
Only Murders in the Building (Hulu)- Selena Gomez has an odd voice and impeccable fashion girl style. I love how this show feels like you’re inside a New Yorker cover.
Unusual Suspects (Hulu)- Australians have a different sense of humahr? To quote my sister when I text her literally anything “Huh?”.
One Tree Hill (Hulu)- Chad MM is a piece of work I tell ya. I can’t believe I used to have a crush on that wishy washy philandering Lucas! Nathan on the other hand….
Ted Lasso (Apple TV +)- I no longer think it’s cheugy and I like it again. Will they or won’t they romances always get me!
The Other Two (HBO Max)- I have to rewatch for all the jokes. Their cultural references are very in-line with my interests.
Truth Be Told (Apple TV+) - Season one is medium and season 2 is HOT!! It’s still going on and I can’t wait for the new episodes every week. It’s a mystery about a podcaster who is embroiled in a mystery! Lots of shows about podcasters these days….
Sex Education (Netflix)- Ok, I love this show but I also have to fast forward through the cringy teen angst because it’s too embarrassing.
Morning Show (Apple TV+)- I’m REALLY not into this show. The dialogue is cray (like Scandal times 10) and nobody seems to have a sense of humor.
Impeachment (FX)- This show is great with the outfits, ambiance, etc but Linda Tripp is so terrible that I can’t even watch Sarah Paulson’s version of her.
Bachelor in Paradise (ABC)- I mostly focus on Grocery Joe and his cute crinkly face. I did like all the influencer drama/ peak behind the curtain but got bored toward the end. Hopefully some of them stay together but I’m not sensing many Carly and Evans.
RHBH (Bravo)- Rinna as Erika’s hype woman was A LOT to take in.
RHSLC (Bravo)- This show is flawless and that’s all I’ll say about that! Unrelated, my boss created this show.
Lula Rich (Amazon Prime)- all I wrote in my notes app for this one was “ugly clothes lol”
Dancing With The Stars (ABC) - I’m enjoying the contestants (except Olivia Jade, SMH). Like Erika Jayne, Tyra needs to tone it down a notch.
Survivor (CBS)- I’m watching as we speak. It was so nice to see Mr. Jeff Probst on my screen again.
Movies!
Resort to Love (Netflix)- as mentioned above, this was my favorite film of the month. A fun love story set in a distant island resort with singing, miscommunications, and sexual tension!
White Chicks (HBO Max)- Um, this doesn’t quite hold up.
Books!
The Girls Are All So Nice Here by Laurie Elizabeth Flynn- Two former best friends return to a college reunion only to find out the secrets of their past are still haunting them (I should write book jackets tbh). It takes place at Weslyan around the time I was at Trinity. The author nailed the Connecticut girl college experience.
A Slow Burning Fire by Paula Hawkins (who wrote Girl on the Train!)- This is a very complex mystery with lots of familial dynamics, secrets, and really really unlikeable characters who you can’t help but like by the end!
We Were Never Here by Andrea Bartz- Another story of toxic best friendship, this time on a study abroad trip in South America. I’m very into this genre!
Wow, that was a lot of stuff. I need to send these more often because my mind is buzzing! Ok, TTFN ta ta for now.
Lol the fashion orthopedics are great and you’re freaking right, Chad MM is the most wishy washy boytoy. Stay away 🙅🏻🙅🏻
