You can call me “Slee.”
You see, I met a star of Tik Tok and screen yesterday and to sound nonchalant and cool I said, “my friends call me C.” He replied “Slee???!” So now I go by Slee. It actually means sly in a certain British dialect. And I am sly! It all works out for the best.
What else is new? Besides starting a new job, moving to a new apartment, and being knocked out by the second vaccine, I have been pretty booked.
Somehow ended up on PRISON Tik Tok. You watch one video about a woman who became a meth addict after trying diet pills and all of a sudden your whole feed is about prison life hacks. I deleted the app for the 15th time but have since redownloaded it. Trying to get back into the baking and makeup tutorial algorithm this time.
Experimented with makeup contouring and lip liner —I think I’m too wide-mouthed for lip liner, but my mom thought I looked pretty.
Announced my appreciation for Lena Dunham (circa Girls) on social media and had many angry friends confront me.
Was told many times I need to relax by a nail technician.
Got some edgy nail art and a friend said “that IS bold.” People really weren’t pulling any punches this month.
Wore an almost crop top. Very scary.
Started running again! Now that I live in Santa Monica my game of “avoid hot people” doesn’t work because they are all hot and willowy. Ugh.
TV
Happy Cruel Summer Summer! I’m of course referring to the hit show Cruel Summer on Freeform.
Cruel Summer (Freeform) — teen melodrama, kidnapping, and murder! Top-drawer actors doing top-tier braces work.
Mare of Eastown (HBO) - nope=nyoop. Guys, I think the professor is involved. The dweeby/cute detective guy will be there for Mare when it all comes to light. Is the edgy musician daughter TOO perfect?
Hacks (HBO Max)- I know just said it was Cruel Summer summer but Hacks is my #1 new show. Jokes galore and Meg Stalter plays an assistant at a literary management company which used to be MY job. How did they know?
Shrill (Hulu)- whenever Aidy Bryant says “fuck” it reminds me of me because neither of us is meant to say that word. Also, season three is hilarious and heartwarming. There is a very sweet love story.
Kenan (NBC)- There were some sparks flying with Kenan and his coworker/love interest by the end. Very good cliffhanger and it’s coming back for season 2.
Gossip Girl (HBO Max)- Rewatched season 1. Impeccable.
Murder at White House Farm (HBO Max)- if you’re looking for Broadchurch, this isn’t it. But it’s creepy and based on a true story.
Generation Hustle (HBO Max) - so many good scams so little time. Each scam is only one episode, so they can’t go as in-depth as a fun podcast might. They cover Anna Delvy!
The Circle (Netflix)- I watched this mostly on mute while browsing Tik Tok but I did cry at one point.
RHONY (Bravo)- love Leah. Ramona and Luann as best friends are so hilarious. Otherwise, nothing to write home about. Yet…
Summer House (Bravo)- is over and I’m devastated.
Girls (HBO)- F-ing hilarious to rewatch. Sorry to say.
Movie
What Lies Below- takes place at Lake Champlain (even so, dad, please don’t watch this).
Wedding Planner - Jlo. self explanatory.
Barb and Star for the third time - less funny the third time. Should have left it at two.
Things Heard and Seen- Grantchester does a very good American accent. Grantchester stans will love (mom…)
Blockers - I’ve heard whisperings that this movie is actually really funny and it is!
Books
Wreckage of My Presence by Casey Wilson - I logged onto my lapsed GoodReads account to give this 5/5 stars. This book is so funny and touching that I guffawed at Trader Joes while listening and then cried on the drive home.
Who is Maud Dixon by Alexandra Andrews- cat and mouse situation that takes place in Morroco. 3/5 stars.
We Are All the Same In the Dark by Julia Heaberman- 5/5 stars- gritty thriller set in rural Texas. Also read her other book Black Eyed Susans.
Ok bye! Have a good week and email me about Mare of Eastown because I want to discuss.
OMG, Slee! Mare of Eastown last night was wild!
